Overview

Jefferson Farm & Gardens, pictured in the illustration above, is a new educational farm being developed on the southeast edge of Columbia, Missouri. The farm will provide information and inspiration on contemporary Midwest farming and gardening topics. Work on the farm and gardens is underway. It is expected to open to the public in 2008.

Attractions

An estimated 30,000 visitors, including 10,000 school children, will experience the farm's indoor and outdoor attractions in the first year. Jefferson Farm & Gardens will host tours, classes, workshops and special events in addition to regular visitation. It will be a great place for kids and families! There will also be opportunity for volunteers and internships.

Jefferson Farm & Gardens will have many components, including a visitors' center with an exhibit hall, classrooms, reading room and teaching greenhouse, children's garden, and walking trails through the gardens and around a 7-acre lake. Visitors will be able to tour a wide variety of crop fields and gardens, including a fruit orchard, vegetable garden, and demonstrations of blueberries, grapes, raspberries and other fruit crops. Common Missouri farm animals will also be featured in the children's barnyard area and adjacent pastures.
