Farm Education At the Jefferson Institute, we provide farmers with technical assistance on production of many different new or alternative crops. This assistance comes through one-on-one counseling by phone or at a farm, and through group education programs, such as field tours, seminars and workshops. Institute staff has a particular expertise in alternative grains, oilseeds and legumes harvested for seed, but also assists producers with questions on other specialty crops. In addition to crop diversification programs, information is provided on other forms of landscape diversification, such as use of cover crops, conservation buffers and agroforestry techniques.
